Taco Bake Recipe

Jump to Recipe

It’s kind of like a taco, kind of like a pizza, kind of like a casserole, but definitely awesome! If you are a huge fan of tacos then you will love this recipe!

This is a recipe that my kids helped me come up with a few years ago. It instantly turned into a family favorite and happens to be my youngest sons favorite food. Anytime I ask my kids for dinner suggestions he always instantly shouts, “taco bake.”

The best part is It’s super easy and quick to make which helps a lot when we have busy days or if I’m not feeling like going all out on cooking. The recipe consists of many ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Taco bake is very easy to customize to your particular taste.

Customization

My recipe is pretty simple when it comes to ingredients because my kids are super picky eaters! However, you can add tomatoes, nacho cheese, olives, peppers, jalapenos, or anything else that suits you. We love the doritos on top but some alternatives you can use are corn chips, torilla chips, and other flavors of doritos.

I generally serve Mexican rice or tortilla chips and queso on the side with the option of adding shredded lettuce, salsa, and extra sour cream. Guacamole adds a nice little touch as well.

Check out the recipe below and try it for yourself.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of ground beef

  • 2 can of Pillsburry crescent roll dough

  • 1 cup of shredded colby jack cheese

  • 1 packet of taco seasoning

  • 1 cup of refried beans

  • 1 small bag of nacho cheese doritos

  • 2 Tbsp. nacho cheese or salsa con queso dip

  • 2 Tbsp. sour cream

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Brown the hamburger in a skillet, drain grease, mix in refried beans and taco seasoning and set to the side.
  • Grease an 8 – 10 inch pan, roll out one of the cans of crescent rolls to cover the bottom of the pan. Lay it down flat as you would do with a pizza crust. Follow the baking directions on the container but be sure to pull it out of the oven when the crescent dough is about halfway done.
  • Once the pan is out of the oven layer in sour cream, taco meat, nacho cheese sauce, and half of the shredded cheese.

  • Roll out the other container of crescent dough and place it on top of the casserole.
  • Place back in the oven and bake until the crescent roll on top is fluffy and golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven. Crush the bag of doritos and spread them out across the top of the casserole. Sprinkle the rest of the cheese over the top. Place back in the oven for a few minutes until the cheese is melted.

Notes

  • You can layer everything at once and cook it that way if you desire. The reason I bake it this way is to ensure that the crescent dough is flaky and not soggy and so the chips are crispy instead of stale like.
